iStock To Add Logo Design

Yesterday I came across a very interesting piece of junk mail. It was iStockphoto.com letting me know they are adding logo design to their list of services. You can see the email here.

Since that time the design world has been up in arms in response to this evil plot to steal their business and discredit their work. Just as the spec work has done in recent years. The businesses and freelancers that complain over these types of lower end, cheap solutions are often the same who offer lower end, cheap solutions to their clients in a veil of a superior product. If all you're doing is making an attractive logo without any real research, it's hard to listen to the anger of someone undercutting your price point. Especially if they are producing an equally attractive and effective logo. In the words of the most talented logo designer who I've lived with (for a short time, in his basement), Dan Spencer "So istock has logo design now. Big deal everyone quit crying about it! If your a designer that buys stock photos you have no room to bitch."

Agreed sir.
